WBOA Evening Workshop: Business Planning

Everyone knows you need a business plan when you are starting a NEW business or to secure a loan but…You also need a business plan:
- To grow a business
- To sell a business
- To determine the value of your business for tax or other purposes such as estate planning
- To attract business investors or business partners
In these two workshops, presented by Samalid Hogan, Regional Director of Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network Western Regional Office and Anita Eliason, WBOA Chief Programs Officer and MSBDC Senior Business Adviser, we will focus on business fundamentals, business plan development and funding sources. It is designed for owners of existing businesses as well as those who are planning to start one. The workshop will help entrepreneurs write a business plan and provide structure to starting/managing their venture.
Topics will include:
- Introduction and need for planning
- Basic business plan format
- Choosing your legal form of organization
- We will touch on Marketing, market planning and research
- Cash flow projections
- Financial Statements
- Financing / Including WBOA Cheryl Reed Loan Application Details
Plus a Q & A Session.
Ms. Samalid Hogan joined the MSBDC in July 2016 as the regional director for the Western Regional Office. Ms. Hogan has 14 years of experience in economic development and has served in key roles building partnerships across public, private, and civic sectors to achieve economic development goals for the Pioneer Valley region in Western Massachusetts. She was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Springfield in 1996.
Ms. Hogan has a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in Entrepreneurship and Innovative Practices from Bay Path University in Longmeadow. She resides in Chicopee with her husband Robert Hogan and her 3-year old daughter, Sophia Hogan.
Anita Eliason is an entrepreneur who has partnered in a real estate rental business, owned a clothing boutique and directed a jacket-manufacturing label. She is a past Grinspoon Award recipient and currently serves as the Chief Programs Officer of the Women Business Owners Alliance (WBOA). In 2018, Anita was awarded the WBOA Business Woman of the Year Award. A graduate of Fairfield University, Anita has enjoyed a rich consulting career with companies such as Campbell Soup Corporation, American Hospital Supply, Hewlett Packard and Eli Lilly. She was selected to participate in the nation’s first female consulting group in the food and healthcare industries covering the west coast and New England.
